Reciprocal childcare

Whether you’re a rookie parent or a veteran in the parenting game, reciprocal childcare is an excellent way to get some “me time” without the expense of a babysitter. The following steps will help ensure the success of reciprocal childcare aspect of your co-op. 1. No money should be exchanged. The best part of the co-op is that everyone works together for the good of the group. Because of this, no money should exchange hands for the childcare. 2. Do your part. If you use the childcare system, be willing to be available when others in the co-op need you according to the childcare schedule. 3. Follow the Golden Rule at all times. 4. Get a good program going. Because plans change week by week, we suggest you do a weekly childcare schedule. If any changes need to be made, it makes it easier to alter the day with another member of the group when things come up. 5. Treat all the kids as you would treat your own. The childcare system is an excellent way to get that extra hour or two to yourself to workout, shower, go to the store and all the great things you don’t get to do. It’s also a wonderful way to give back to your co-op and allow you and your child to get to know other members at a deeper level. As your comfort grows, you and your co-op may choose to expand from the reciprocal childcare to include carpooling and even a lunch making schedule. The sky is truly the limit with a village of support.
